After
spending almost a week, watching Hurricane Katrina hit land
and destroy so many lives, I decided the only way out of
the depression (that was closing in on me at lightning speed),
was for me to try to find some way to help! I soon realized
that gathering extra clothes from my closet and bagging
canned goods from my pantry was not gonna be good enough,
'cause (while for a quick moment I felt better) as soon
as I dropped everything off and got back home, I felt depressed
again.
So,
I put a notice on my website telling everyone that a good
amount of the proceeds from my latest album would go to
benefit those so terribly hurt. Somehow that didn't feel
like enough either. A day later I decided to take one of
my songs, "Call My Name," and make a tribute single out
of it. (Back in the 90's, I had one of the first AIDS tribute
solo songs out there to help raise awareness. It was played
on many major radio stations US-wide and Internationally,
including KRBE and KHMX here in Houston.)
But
suddenly, I had another idea ... I realized that there are
literally hundreds of awesome recording artists out there
who feel just as I do, who also want to help; so I thought
rather than just releasing my own single, why not work with
other artists so they can release a single of their own
too? So I set out to put together a collection of outstanding
songs from the best artists I either knew personally or
could find (who held their own licensing rights) ... super
fast! Now, together with the generous independent and established
artists who have donated their amazing material, we are
going to see if we cannot help this situation out financially!
But best of all ... I believe we are releasing (with Vol.
1) a truly excellent and affordable CD that makes you want
to dance, sing, think and sometimes even laugh.
There
is nothing like music to bring healing to the people when
they are hurting ... and that is what this CD (and the future
ones) are all about!
Now
there is one more thing I need to say:
It
is gonna take a tremendous amount of money to help restore
the lives that are left from the aftermath of Katrina's
devastation; and waiting around on officials to provide
everything the people need is obviously not going to be
our best option. The people must gather together to help
the people! This is not a quick fix situation, it's gonna
take many months to even years of nonstop giving! And when
the press headlines go away, we (the artists here at KatrinaCD.com)
hope to bring out yet another inspiring CD that reminds
everyone that people are still out there trying to put the
pieces back together again.
It
is up to all of us to not forget what has happened here,
but if we focus our intentions ... we will not only NOT
FORGET, we will restore what was taken from us and be a
stronger people for having endured! I have faith that we
will get thru this. And I deeply believe, Love (God) is
always there ... waiting to release a Spirit upon the people
that helps us all see ... caring for one another is the
only thing that really matters.
Thank
you for supporting "The Katrina CD Project" and playing
your part in helping us to rebuild our beloved cities and
the lives that live in them.
Love,
Laughter and Light!
